From 42 to 10: The Coronation of Bambi
When Jamal Musiala finally swapped his beloved number 42 for the number 10 at the start of the 2025-26 season, Bayern Munich crowned the heir to their creative throne. The kid they call Bambi - for that impossible, gliding close control - had already won five Bundesliga titles and the 2020 Champions League before turning 23. The 10, inherited from Leroy Sane, is both a responsibility and a statement: this is Munich's playmaker now, and until 2030.
Six Bundesliga titles by 23. Euro 2024 Golden Boot. Back from a broken leg with a double. The number 10 is safe in Bambi's hands.
Germany's Prodigy at the World Cup
Musiala's tournament began beautifully: a goal in Germany's 7-1 demolition of Curacao, one of the results of the group stage. Germany's campaign ended in shock - a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay in the round of 32, one of the great World Cup upsets - but at 23, Musiala's international story has barely started. He was the joint top scorer at Euro 2024 with 3 goals, and his list of youngest-ever German records (youngest player at a major tournament at 18 years and 117 days) reads like a preview of a decade of dominance in the number 10.
Career Jersey Numbers: The 42 Legacy
Musiala's story is unusual among superstars: he chose a big number and made it iconic. After coming through Bayern's academy (and a childhood spell at Chelsea's academy), he broke into the first team in 2020 wearing 42 - and kept it for five seasons and five Bundesliga titles, long after he'd earned a "first-choice" number. For Germany, he wore 14 at the 2022 World Cup before claiming the 10. The 42 shirts from his early seasons are already collector's items - the jersey of a generational talent before the world fully knew.
