Matthijs de Ligt Jersey Hub 2026
Ajax #4 • Juventus #4 • Bayern #4 • United #4
Most players change numbers the way they change clubs. Matthijs de Ligt has done neither. From the Ajax academy to Turin, Munich and Manchester, the No.4 on his back has been the one constant in a career that has already taken him to four of Europe's biggest clubs and a Champions League semi-final as a teenage captain. This hub follows the shirt that never changes - and every De Ligt jersey you can buy today.
Amsterdam: The No.4 That Led at 19
Before the fees and the headlines, there was Ajax. De Ligt joined the academy at nine, debuted for the first team at 17 and scored on his debut, and by 19 he was the club's youngest-ever captain. The 2018-19 season turned him into a household name: he skippered Erik ten Hag's side past Real Madrid and Juventus to the Champions League semi-finals, and that autumn he became the first defender ever to win the Golden Boy. The No.4 on his Ajax shirt was already a statement of authority - a centre-back who led before he was old enough to rent a car. The Eredivisie title that year was just the start.
Turin: The £67m No.4
Juventus paid a then-Italian-record fee near £67m for that authority in 2019, and the No.4 travelled to Turin with him. Three seasons brought a Serie A crown in 2019-20, the Coppa Italia in 2020-21 and a Supercoppa Italiana, plus 117 appearances against Serie A's most technical forwards. It was a mixed spell - he arrived behind Chiellini and Bonucci at their peak, and the league exposed the parts of his game still raw - but the number never moved. By 2022 Juventus were ready to cash in, and Bayern were ready to pay.
Munich: The No.4 That Won
Bayern Munich handed over around £65m and handed him the same No.4 in 2022. His first season delivered exactly what the badge demands: the 2022-23 Bundesliga title and the DFL-Supercup, in a back line that leaned on his reading of the game. Injuries then nibbled at his second year under Thomas Tuchel, and he watched Euro 2024 from the Netherlands bench - but the shirt, as ever, stayed at No.4. Two years, one Bundesliga, and a reputation as the most expensive defender in the world by cumulative transfer fees.
Manchester: The No.4 Returns
Manchester United brought him home to Ten Hag in August 2024 for an initial £38.5m plus add-ons, and the No.4 came too - his fourth club in the same number. He arrived as a first-choice centre-back in a defence crying out for leadership, reunited with the coach who had made him a captain at 19. United are still chasing their first silverware since his arrival, but the shirt has settled on his back the way it always does: as the badge of a defender who has been trusted everywhere he has gone. The No.4 at Old Trafford is still being written.
Netherlands: The No.3 in Orange
For the Netherlands, de Ligt has mostly worn No.3 - one of the youngest Dutch senior debutants since 1931, and now past 50 caps. He has also taken the No.4 for his country in 2024-25, so the number that defines his club career follows him into orange too. Our Netherlands grid carries the 2022-23 home and away in the No.3 he made his own with the Lions. A defender's international story is written in clean sheets and big nights; de Ligt's is still adding chapters.
Career Numbers: One Number, Four Clubs
Four clubs, four countries, one number. Ajax gave him the No.4 and a captain's armband at 19; Juventus kept it through a Serie A title and a Coppa; Bayern won a Bundesliga in it; Manchester United pulled it back on in 2024. Our grid covers three of those chapters in shirt form - the Juventus 2020-21 home from his Turin years, the Bayern 2023-24 and 2024-25 home from Munich, and a run of Manchester United shirts from his 2024-25 debut season through the 2026-27 third - plus the Netherlands No.3 home and away. Ajax shirts aren't in our catalogue yet, but the number is the same one he wore there. Continuity is its own kind of swagger.
